Estou aqui em terras tailandesas e dei comigo a cantarolar esta bela cancao quando acordei hoje de manha (e o que da trazer o ipod para a praia...).
Seja como for, esta musica leva-me a sitios onde poucos sons me conseguem levar. Nao sei porque, mas a melodia, a voz dela... Do melhor alguma vez feito...

I'm still in Thailand and this morning I woke up singing this nice song... I guess that's what we get when we bring the ipod to the beach...
Anyway, this song takes me to places where only very few sounds actually take me. I don't really know why, but the melody, her voice... I'd say this is one of the best things ever devised!

The Gift - Driving you slow

Estava a ouvir esta bela musica dos Queen e decidi mete-la aqui. Eu nem sequer me vou alongar sobre o genio que foi Freddie Mercury e que pena e, para este mundo, este homem nao mais existir. Mas ca fica, como disse, uma bela musica e um video muito a frente!

I was listening to this nice song by Queen when I decided it would a good idea to post it here. I"m not even going to talk about the genius Freddie Mercury was and how much poorer is this world, now that he is gone. But, as I said, here's a nice song and a really cool video!

A Wikipedia e um sitio bom. Tao bom, tao bom que foi la que encontrei uma referencia a mais esta pequena maravilha que a minha deusa Tina Turner nos proporcionou! Nao ha um video propriamente dito da musica, mas ha imagens inesqueciveis Dela. E isso chega-me. Sobretudo acompanhado por esta bela melodia!

Wikipedia is a fine place. Being such a place, no wonder I came across a piece of news about this wonderful sound my goddess Tina Turner has given us all! There's no video of this music, but the images of Her are always great to watch again and again! And that's enough! And it comes with this great song!

E decidi espetar a bela musiquinha aqui no blog, Afinal ele e meu, e eu faco dele o que quiser (continuo a falar do blog!).

Here's another great song, by a great singer! For a long time now I like this woman. For her beauty (she can pull off that super blond hair as no one else), for her originality, for her voice. So I decided to put the song here, on the blog. After all, it's mine and I use it as I want (I'm still referring to the blog, by the way).

Still filled with the Portuguese feeling, I leave you with a little bit of the sound that I brought with me, the first time I came to Japan in 2005. The title to the song means "I want to live", and that's exactly what I feel. It was also part of the soundtrack of my favorite soap opera I had to leave half way...
I'm tired, so I'm not going to write anything else...

For some time now, I've been thinking of Sweden all the time. Probably since Keiko-sensei went to Stockholm for holidays... But, well, here's a great song from the time when I used to live in that amazing place from which I keep such great memories...

Lembro-me de ser miudo e rir-me as gargalhas com esta serie. E ainda hoje o faco. Absolutamente genial!

I remember being just a kid and laughing at this series. And I still do it today. Absolutely amazing!

Orange Range - Locolotion

Depois do tom bastante serio do ultimo video, ca fica um dos videos mais deliciosos que descobri no Pais das Maravilhas.
E de um grupo de nome Orange Range (ler com um ligeiro "i" no final e nao um "e", bem ao estilo japones) e fiquei doido com o video, que esta muito a frente, sobretudo por estas bandas! Dei com ele numa sessao de karaoke em Kusu e levou-me tempo para o meter aqui porque o Youtube nao o permite la (malditos direitos de autor). Mas la consegui!

After a very serious video, here's one of the coolest clips I found in Wonderland.
It't by a group called Orange Range (note that it should be read with a "ee" sound at the end, in the good Japanese way) and I went crazy with it! It's way out there, bearing in mind where I am!
I found it at a karaoke session in Kusu and it took me time to get here because even Youtube doesn't have it (damn the copyrights). But It's finally here!

Hirai Ken - Ring

Vi este video no outro dia e chorei. A musica e linda, mas nao e isso. O velhote faz-me lembrar o Norberto e ver esta familia reunida faz-me lembrar que de isso jamais sera possivel quando regressar. Prometi a mim mesmo nao voltar a ver este video, pela simples razao de que o Norberto, e eu sei-o, nao me querera ver a chorar!

De other day I watched this video and cried. The song is beautiful, but it wasn't because of it. The old man reminds me of Norberto, my grandfather, and seeing this family together reminds me that that will never again be possible when I go back. I promised to myself never to watch this video again, for one simple reason: my grandfather doesn't want me to cry! I know it!

My mother always liked this song and I remember listening to it from time to time. I could not help but liking it too!

Este e dos melhores sketches que eu ja alguma vez tive a oportunidade de ver. E tudo bom, mas os ultimos 20 segundos sao geniais!

This is one of the best sketches I have ever seen. It's really all amazing, but the last 20 seconds are just genius!

From all the new people coming back to fado, she is my favorite. Her voice is clear and strong. The words she sings, the way she does it... Just great!

Eu acho a Bjork genial. E diferente dos demais e consegue ser optima. Acho que esta e uma das minhas musicas favoritas! Nao sei porque... Tem uma forca na voz mas, ao mesmo tempo, uma calma inspiradora. Nao consigo explicar!

I think Bjork is a genius. She is different but she surely can get away with it! I think this is one of my favorite songs by her! And I can't even say why... I think she has a certain strength in her voice, but at the same time an inspiring calm. I just can't explain it!

Moby featuring Debbie Harry - New York New York

Dei com esta no youtube ha uns dias e ando louco! A presenca da Senhora Dona Debbie Harry empresta um tom especial a esta musica. E o video esta demais. Viva!

This song was played on the radio on the dawn of April 25th, 1974. It was the sign for the beginning of the army revolution that would overthrow the dictatorship in Portugal. Isn't it amazing listening to a song that literally changed a country!?

Blondie - Call me

Durante muito tempo vivi na ignorancia. Na ignorancia de quao brilhante e a Blondie! Mas, um dia, vi o clip do Unio City Blue e fiquei louco! Comprei o cd e dai a adoracao por esta figura mitica e unica foi um pequeno passo. E ca fica o video de umas das melhores cancoes de todos os tempos. Penso eu de que!

For a long time I lived without knowing what I was missing! But, one day, I saw the "Union City Blue" video on tv and realized how amazing Blondie actually is. I bought the cd and then it was a very small step towards just adoring this mythical and unique person! And here is the video of one of the best songs ever devised!

Ora aqui esta um dos bons! Lembro-me de ouvir esta bela musiquinha na radio em Portugal. Quando ainda ouvia a Radio Cidade! Vejam la ao tempo que ja foi!
O curioso e que muito pouca gente conhece este grupo aqui no Japao! Mas que sao optimos e que esta musica em particular e das boas, la isso e!

Esta faz-me lembrar os bons tempos da QNE! Cada vez que isto dava na radio, havia coisas! MM MM (De notar o frances do locutor britanico!)

This song reminds me of the good times I spent working in a high school in Portugal! We went crazy with this! And note the accent of the British guy!

Hirai Ken - Ring

Uma das minhas cancoes favoritas do Hirai Ken. La esta, nao percebo nada do que ele diz, mas esse e o encanto da musica: amar a coisa sem entende-la! E, como complemento, o video desta cancao e tao lindo: a preto e branco, conta a historia de uma qualquer familia japonesa que se reencontra em casa dos pais, no campo. E termina com cada um a regressar a sua casa entonando esta cancao...

One of my favorite songs by Hirai Ken. Then again, I have no idea of what is singing about, but that's the charm about music in general: we don't need to understand it to love it! Besides, the video for this song is really cool: black and white, telling a story about a family meeting at the parents' place, somewhere in the countryside. It ends with the people going back to their lives singing this song...

Plavalaguna - Lucia di Lammermoor

Para quem nao se lembra, esta cena e do "Quinto Elemento", um filme extraordinario. E esta cena, digo eu, e a melhor do filme. Nao e so a caracterizacao e a cena de pancadaria nos entretantos, mas sim o climax que a propria musica permite.
E, caso nao saibam, e mesmo uma pessoa a cantar! E uma albanesa chamada Inva Mula-Tchako (ainda bem que tem mais um nome... ter o sobrenome "Mula" nao 'ta com nada).

For those who haven't been taking their memory pills, this is part of "The Fifth Element", an amazing movie. And this part is, as far as I can tell, the best in the movie. It's not only the make-up and all the punching in between, but also the climax that the song itself presents.
And, if you are not aware of it already, it's a real person singing! It's an Albanian lady called Inva Mula-Tchako.

Marija Serifovic - Molitva

Esta menina ganhou o ultimo concurso da Eurovisao. Nao se percebe nada da cancao (parece a minha vida diaria no Japao!), mas que a voz dela e potente, la isso e. E a musica e bem boa!
Foi interessante, porem, ouvir dizer na BBC que os paises da Europa de Leste estao feitos uns com os outros e que controlam completamente a competicao... Mas, entao, se eles sao bons, porque nao?!

This lady won the last Eurovision Song Contest. I don't understand a thing of the song (just like my daily life in Japan!), mas her voice is indeed good! And the song is pretty cool too!
It was interesting, though, listening people on BBC saying that Eastern European countries give points to each others and that they are in control of the competition... I wonder, if these countries are really good, why not?!

Madonna - Nothing really matters

Adoro a estetica da coisa, obviamente inspirada no Pais das Maravilhas. E e tambem uma das minhas cancoes favoritas por esta senhora...

I just love the aesthetics of the video, clearly embedded in Wonderland (for those who don't know, on this blog Wonderland = Japan or, sometimes, wherever). And this is, also, one of my favorite songs by this lady...

Little Britain - Vicky Pollard

Cruzei-me com esta personagem, entre muitas outras, ha ja um tempo! E pura e simplesmente brilhante! E foi tao dificil escolher um clip para meter aqui!

PS - Pode nao fazer muito sentido, de repente. Mas se virem o programa, vao ficar tao dependentes!

Babel

O Brad e a Cate sao completamente obliterados neste filme. Os miudos marroquinos, a ama mexicana e a rapariga japonesa sao brilhantes! O filme e excelente, com uma estoria cheia de interesse e uma fotografia sem falhas! A nao perder!

Brad and Cate are absolutely indifferent in this movie. The Moroccan kids, the Mexican nanny and the Japanese girl are just awesome! The movie is just great, with a very interesting story line and a flawless photography! Please, watch it!

Simone de Oliveira - Desfolhada portuguesa

Gosto dela. Ha ja muito tempo. E esta musica, parece-me, incorpora a sua energia e, ate, a sua ousadia! Sim senhora!

This was the portuguese song on the Eurovision in 1969. I love the singer. She has been full of energy and she has always been quite bold. She even sang "who makes a child, does so out of enjoyment" in a deeply 1969 conservative Portugal!

A primeira musica de que gostei a valer quando cheguei ao Japao. Talvez a primeira a que prestei atencao!

O Da Costa de Carvalho, como so poderia ser, mostrou-me o belo. Refiro-me, entre outras coisas, ao filme Kill Bill 1. E esta cancao encarna a beleza do filme. Digo eu.

My friend Da Costa de Carvalho showed me beauty in itself. I'm referring to the movie "Kill Bill 1", from among other things. This song, for me, embodies the beautfy of the movie.
